A Transformer Upgrade can be used to upgrade a machine's power input rate or tier. Place one or two transformer upgrades into the four right-most slots to upgrade a machine.
One upgrade enables a tier 1 machine to receive 128 EU/p. Two upgrades enables it to receive 512 EU/p and three for more than 512 EU/p.
Important: Make sure to put the transformer upgrade into the machine before applying power. Temporarily removing the wiring while setting up your machines is a good way to do this.
These upgrades are now usable in most energy-consuming machines from the GregTech 4 mod. Compatible machines are indicated in NEI with a "T" under "Possible Upgrades". As there exists no slot to place them in, upgrades are instead applied permanently to a machine by holding the upgrades in your hand and right clicking them individually onto a machine. LV machines can take two upgrades, while some other machines can take up to four. After this, to get higher voltage capabilities, one must apply the GregTech 4-specific HV-Transformer Upgrade.
Because upgrades are applied permanently, after installation of Transformer Upgrades Gregtech machines can be placed against power sources without the need for removal of wiring—which is impossible if machines are transmitting power to each other directly.
Note that Transformer Upgrades applied to machines which are capable of transmitting power to adjacent machines will increase the output at a different rate; for instance, an Electric Translocator normally accepts 32 EU/t and outputs the same. With one Transformer Upgrade, the input increases to 128 EU/t, but the output remains 32 EU/t. With two upgrades, the Translocator accepts 512 EU/t but outputs 128 EU/t.
