IndustrialCraft2, often stylized as IC2, is a mod for Minecraft based around industrial processes and is one of the most venerable mods still in use in Feed The Beast today.
IC2 introduces numerous features across a variety of areas in Minecraft, including resource processing, mining, agriculture and the player's armory itself. It accomplishes this through the use of a proprietary energy system of Energy Units, or EU, and includes an array of generators and blocks to provide and store this energy and a much larger stable of machinery and tools to use this energy in their own ways. Its prevalence is such that it can be seen in almost every Feed The Beast modpack since it was launched, with only select modpacks based around a specific theme omitting it.
Recently, the IC2 Dev team have decided to overhaul the mod to bring it up to the standards set with newer mods released today. Feed the Beast modpacks prior to those running on Minecraft version 1.6 include the original IndustrialCraft2 mod. 1.6.4 modpacks onwards use the newer beta versions (dubbed IC2 Experimental or IC2x) which is in a heavy development phase and subject to potential change on a daily basis to anything from simple UU-matter numbers tunings to large rewrites of nuclear reactor cooling formulae. As such, information about IC2x is to be treated as tentative at all times and may be rendered out of date at any moment.
Compatibility Notes[edit]
Due to the mod's great age and popularity, numerous other mods have included some form of integration with IC2 mechanics from simply allowing their ores to be processed in Macerators to being able to use IC2 items as crafting ingredients, like UU-Matter or compressed metals. In particular, many mods today still allow IC2 EU to be used as an alternative source of power for their own machines or include their own ways of producing this energy. Of these mods that integrate with IC2 in some way, a sizable portion of these are add-ons for the mod which require IC2 to be installed to function. These add-ons can add any amount of functionality, ranging from only one or two blocks to being almost as large as IC2 itself in terms of content.
