The Blast Furnace is a machine from IndustrialCraft2 Experimental solely for the purpose of creating Refined Iron. It is somewhat unique in that it doesn't use EU as its main power source but hU (= heat units), which must be generated by external means (i.e. by one of the different heat generators: Electric Heat Generator, Solid Heat Generator, Fluid Heat Generator, Liquid Heat Exchanger or Radioisotope Heat Generator).

Hint: When using the Electric Heat Generator, use heating coils to allow the machine to work and make sure the orange squares are pointing at each other (each machine) for the heat conduction to work.

Function [1][edit]

First the Blast Furnace needs to heat up, accepting a maximum of 20hU/t. Once operating temperature is reached processing will start, requiring 1hU/t to keep the heat level. Note that this can't be accelerated by providing more hU/t.

The reaction the Blast Furnace performs is: 1 Iron Source, 6 Compressed Air Cells --> 1 Refined Iron Ingot, 1 Slag.
Where Iron Source is either an Iron Ingot or any processing step of iron which can be smelted into one, that is: Ore, Crushed Ore, Purified Crushed Ore or Dust.
One reaction takes approximately 300s, during which the Compressed Air Cells are emptied one by one, so refilling can start even before the whole operation is complete.
