The Meteorite Compass is an item added by Applied Energistics 2 that aides in the discovery of Skystone Meteorites in the world.
When located in your hotbar (technically anywhere in your inventory) the Meteorite Compass will point (like a compass) to the nearest Skystone Meteorite in the world. Once you've entered the same chunk (16x16 world space) as the Meteorite the compass needle will begin to spin wildly.
Using the common hotkey "F9" should display chunk boundaries and in conjuction with the Meteorite Compass is helpful for finding Skystone Meteorites that are buried underground.
Removing all Skystone blocks from a meteorite location will cause the Meteorite Compass to cease spinning wildly, and begin pointing to the next closest Skystone Meteorite.
