OpenComputers is a mod by Sangar which adds Lua-based programmable computers and robots. The core of an OpenComputers computer is the Computer Case, which holds the necessary computer components such as a Central Processing Unit (CPU), Memory, Graphics Card, and optionally a Hard Disk Drive. Computer peripherals such as a Screen, Keyboard and Disk Drive can be attached by placing them either next to the Computer Case, another connected peripheral, or a Cable that is connected to the computer.
Most computer components and peripherals can be upgraded to improve them or add new abilities. For example, Computer Cases gain more slots and can support more advanced components, Graphics Cards and Screens get the ability to display colors, and Memory and Hard Disk Drives have more space.
Servers are similar to Computer Cases, but with a few important differences: they are items, need to be placed in a Server Rack to function, can handle more components than regular cases, and may be controlled using a Remote Terminal. Servers connect to external blocks based on the side configuration in the server rack - for example, to access Floppy Disks in a Disk Drive that is placed on top of the server rack, the server must be in the server rack slot that is configured to connect upwards.
Robots are essentially mobile computers. Unlike computers and servers, they cannot interact with peripheral blocks. They can, however, send and receive network messages sent using network cards, when adjacent to a cable or networked block. Robots are constructed in a Electronics Assembler from any Computer Case, where they can be configured with regular computer parts or robot upgrades. A Tier 1 Screen and a Keyboard can also be installed like an upgrade to allow for user interaction. A disk drive can be installed in a container slot to allow inserting and remove floppy disks in the assembled robot.
OpenComputers is aware of many other mods, accepting power in many forms and allowing communications across multiple transport methods. OpenComputers makes extensive use of nuggets of iron and gold, and accepts Tinkers' Construct iron oreberries and gold oreberries as substitutes.
