Direct copy-pasting[edit]

Thought: it should be mentioned somewhere in the Style Guide that, while paraphrasing information from other wikis is perfectly fine in writing articles here, information should not be directly copy-pasted from other sources. Thoughts/objections? DigitallyApocalyptic (talk) 15:52, 1 June 2013 (CEST)

If it is a cc-by-sa wiki, like wikia, there is no problem with direct copy paste. Content should be cleaned up to comply with our style guidelines, of course. Almost all of our first wave of content when we were still on wikia was directly copied from mod wikis And the tekkit wikia.
Directly copying mod descriptions is a slightly less clear territory, however given the descriptive And encyclopedic nature of the wiki, it falls within a window of fair use that is reasonable for our purposes. The Falling Meteor Mod description is in such major need of a rewrite, I have no qualms with copying it, citing the source and then largely rewriting it to be useful and coherent.

How harsh to be with videos[edit]

Does simply asking for a like/sub at the end of the video already count as "advertising the channel" and qualify the video for being removed? It is common YouTube practice to say "please subscribe" and I'm not quite sure if it's a bit too harsh to remove a video just because of that. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 21:14, 29 September 2013 (CEST)

True, it is a fairly common practice... User Page. ƒelinoel_Contributions 23:02, 29 September 2013 (CEST)
That's not really a problem, criteria to look at for removing videos is quality. How much information is provided, the video and audio quality. Stuff like that. RZR0 RZR0 (RZR0's Talk Page Talk | RZR0's Contributions Contributions) 00:03, 30 September 2013 (CEST)

Additional examples and...[edit]

I think we need additional example guides like what we have for Items/Blocks here, something for the mods, modpacks, mobs, and maybe even just for the concept articles like lua or research by aspect. Also I think it should be on a separate page that is linked to here to eliminate all possible confusion and to make it easier for the users. Thoughts? ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 19:36, 31 October 2013 (CET)

How about putting those sample pages on Project:Block article guide, Project:Mod article guide, etc.? --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 17:38, 8 November 2013 (CET)
Why the Project: prefix?
I was thinking more like Generic Mod Article or Sample Mod Article or whatnot. User Page. ƒelinoel_Contributions 18:56, 8 November 2013 (CET)
"Project:" is the shorthand for the wiki namespace, which in our case is "Feed The Beast Wiki:". e. g. Project:Style Guide links to Feed The Beast Wiki:Style Guide. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 19:26, 8 November 2013 (CET)
Weird, wonder why it doesn't work like that over at Wikia. So yeah, back on topic... ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 06:07, 9 November 2013 (CET)
It does... try entering "Project:" into the search field (don't hit enter) and wait for the suggestions. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 14:26, 9 November 2013 (CET)
I looked into it, the instances I was confused by used Projects not Project lol ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 05:00, 10 November 2013 (CET)
Anyways here is a list of things that could use their own style guide article off the top of my head, expect more to be added later and post your own ideas too:
Blocks/Items, Mobs, Mods/Modpacks, Biomes, Dimensions, Concepts, Weapons (These could probably be separate, probably)
More may come, post your thoughts and suggestions! User Page. ƒelinoel_Contributions 12:01, 12 November 2013 (CET)

2 Videos Only?[edit]

With the 2 video limit, it seems like "first come, first serve" where you aren't supposed to delete quality videos, but can't post more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.204.211.234 (talk · contribs)

Uh, my bad for this harsh rollback 2 minutes ago, guess I should stop watching the wiki for today. As for the videos, one possible way of solving this problem: start a discussion at the talk page of an article which videos you suppose outdated and are willing to provide a new one. OstPavel (talk) 21:31, 18 November 2013 (CET)
Either that or the forums, you might get more people if you post about it on the forums. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 09:55, 19 November 2013 (CET)

US/UK spelling[edit]

Is there a preference for which spellings to use for things like color/colour? I've been using the American spellings for things simply because I am from America, except in the case of item names like Armour Inhibitor where I defer to the mod's spelling. I don't really care which style is used but I do like consistency. Gxam (talk) 00:10, 21 May 2014 (CEST)

As far as I'm aware, we use US spelling, with the exception of as you said, names defined by mods themselves. ~~ RZR0 (Talk | Contributions) 00:17, 21 May 2014 (CEST)
Lol, the Style Guide says "standardised". -~ZL123 :O~- (talk) 17:33, 15 August 2015 (CEST)

This is really bothering me.[edit]

From the second bullet-point in the Point of View section: "The reader should not be addressed directly, third person should be used instead." It should be a semicolon, not a comma. I'm sorry. -~ZL123 :O~- (talk) 17:33, 15 August 2015 (CEST)

Then why not fix it? :p You're an admin, you have the powah! ~~ RZR0 (Talk | Contributions) 18:03, 15 August 2015 (CEST)
Lol there wasn't an edit button yesterday... I know because I saw a 'View Source' button :P -~ZL123 :O~- (talk) 01:40, 16 August 2015 (CEST)
